After Rory won The Masters to complete the career Grand Slam TaylorMade for a limited time offered his irons (described below) for sale. No longer available retail but still could be yours. This set specifically has 6.0 Project X shafts that are Hard Stepped once. They are 1/2 an inch longer and 1/2 upright. Spec sheet shown in photos. They are still wrapped up in the box and minty fresh! Rory McIlroy has been using a set of custom TaylorMade irons since he joined the brand in 2017. His irons are based off the P730 forged blade that TaylorMade launched in that same year. Rory had a few changes to the P730 that he requested, and TaylorMade engineers took those changes to the computers and created the Rors Proto irons he has used ever since. Like the P730, Rory’s Rors Proto irons are forged from 1025 carbon steel, and the back of the iron features a milled concave section that runs from heel to toe. This channel allowed TaylorMade to adjust the trajectory and control of each iron so skilled players can work the ball precisely into the green. The big difference on the Rors Proto irons is the TW2 grooves that are milled onto the face. The P730 irons used a milled face and MX-9 grooves (14 total) that spun a little less than the Rors Proto’s TW2 (16 grooves), the same used on the TaylorMade P7TW irons. Rory preferred a slimmer top line on the 7 and 8-irons as well. The Rors Proto irons look to be 1-degree stronger in loft and 1/4 inches longer than the original P730, but with the same standard lie angles. On the hosel, TaylorMade will add four colored dots near the “Forged” text to commemorate the irons winning all 4 major championships.
